Who Is Jesus?
Jesus Christ was with God the Father before the world was created. He became human and lived among humanity as Jesus of Nazareth. He came to show us what God is like. He lived a sinless life, showing us how to live; and He died upon a cross to pay for our sins. God raised Him from the dead. Jesus is the source of eternal life. Jesus wants to be the doorway to new life for you. In the Bible He was called the "Lamb of God" (John 1:29). In Old Testament times sacrifices were made for the sins of the people. Jesus became the sacrificial lamb offered for your sin. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes unto the Father except through me" (John 14:6). He is waiting for you now.
Becoming a Christian is simple enough for everyone to understand.
Here are the ABC's of salvation.
Admit.
Admit to God that you are a sinner. All persons need salvation. Each of us has a problem the Bible calls sin. Sin is a refusal to acknowledge God's authority over our lives. Since no one can live a life of perfect obedience to God, then everyone is guilty of sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The result of sin is spiritual death. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Spiritual death means eternal separation from God. Admitting that you are a sinner and separated from God is the first step of repentance, which is turning from sin and self and turning toward. God.
Believe.
Believe in Jesus Christ as God's Son and receive Jesus' gift of forgiveness from sin. God loves each of us. God offers us salvation. Although we have done nothing to deserve His love and salvation, God wants to save us. In the death of Jesus on the cross, God provided salvation for all who would repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
Confess and Commit.
Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and commit your life to obey Him. "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). You may express your faith in Jesus to save you by praying a prayer similar to this:
"Dear God, I know that you love me. I confess my sin and need of salvation. I turn away from my sin and place my faith in Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray, amen."
After you have received Jesus Christ into your life, tell a Christian pastor or another Christian about your decision. Show others your faith in Christ by joining a local Christian church and asking for baptism by immersion according to Christ's example. Continue to grow in your faith by studying and obeying God's word, the Bible.
Finally, once you are saved, be assured that you can never lose your salvation. "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand" (John 10:28).
